Slano, indent in a beautiful, deep, 2 km long bay, has numerous sandy beaches, lush vegetation and mild climate. Slano, a town and small port, 27 km northwest of Dubrovnik, has population of 512.
Main occupations are farming, olive growing, viticulture, fruit-growing, tobacco, herbs (sage, laurel, woodworm), fishing and tourism. Visiting yachts can anchor in a sheltered bay. Large yachts can anchor in front of the entrance to the bay, south-west of the Upper Cape.
Area of Slano was inhabited already in prehistoric times (the remains on the nearby hills) and ancient (Roman castrum on the hill Gradina; early Christian sarcophagi, today in front of the Franciscan church). Dubrovnik gained Slano in 1399th; there was a seat of Prince.
