On the northern side of the island of Hvar there is a place Vrboska, situated in a deep and narrow bay intersected with a series of fairytale like stone bridges connecting two sides of the town.
The Vrboska Fishermen museum preserve testimonies of the fishing tradition of this place. In the historical sense is particularly striking fortress-church from the 16th century dedicated to St. Mary, which is located on an elevated place in the center of Vrboska because of frequent attacks of the Turks. In a church of st. Lawrence (sveti Lovro) is kept a very valuable polyptych from the second half of the 16th century, the work of Paolo Veronese. In honor to the saint to whom the church is dedicated - St. Lawrence - on 10.08. the procession is celebrated, which represents the wealth of folk culture.
In August, locals have maintained an fish evening and Summer Carnival on squares with the offer of seafood specialties at popular prices, and a music program. The most popular beach on the peninsula is Soline, with sandy and rocky coves, and Maslinica, which is located from the center only ten minutes walk. The visitor should also know that the ACY yacht marina in Vrboska is very well equipped, with 85 berths, gas stations, workshops for repairs, toilets, parking and restaurant. It is open throughout the whole year, and every June 5th the blue flag is raised, the symbol of preserved natural environment, clean sea and superb travel services.
